De Condat America If history repeats itself with different actors then we are living exactly as we have always lived on this small planet of ours. We wake up to wars, hunger, and other frightening news everyday. It seems we cannot escape the horrors of the developing and developed world. Not enough rain, too little snow, too much need and not enough opportunity. Our world has changed little.
The world of culture enters this sad and stressful environment to soothe us, inspire us, and give us hope to continue in our individual and collective quest for peace and prosperity for all. It is the world of music, song, dance and beauty that feeds our spirit and lifts us from the mundane to the sublime. It is the world of opera, symphony, theatre, ballet, and the visual arts that separates us from the rest of the animal world. From the beginning of time we have had a need to express our deepest emotional and creative thoughts through the medium collectively called culture. Today we seem to have lost the desire to build public spaces that can provide cultural organizations with the residence they need to evolve and continue to create. The spaces necessary to present their performances to an audience are few and many are housed in old and decrepit facilities. It is therefore a very proud moment to live in a city that has made a commitment to build not only one but several public spaces where its citizens can gather and experience the arts at their best. Dallas, Texas has now entered a new era as a world class cultural center. Through its Center for the Performing Arts, located in the heart of the city, it will provide a unifying environment of architecture, and the space where families can gather and enjoy the arts as they should be experienced. As citizens of this progressive city we will have the opportunity to enjoy a world of culture that is full of life and music, beautiful and inspiring, peaceful and hopeful.
